The battle rages on.
I’ve been fighting acne since puberty and it feels like I will continue to fight until my last day on earth. It’s so frustrating. But I am very, very thankful that it stops at my face. Knock on wood it will stay that way for the many years of my life to come.
I have tried everything under the sun, from Neutrogena, which worked for a hot minute then laughed at me then there was Clearasil which also, laugh at me after a few months, so finally I ordered Proactive, that in turn burn my skin, no bueno. I’ve tried other products, that I can’t think of the name right now. I’ve even mixed product, but nothing. I don’t want to go to the dermatologist so I have to be on medication, I hear it’s harsh and the sides affect are seriously health compromising. I’m doing my best to avoid that route.
I’ve done some research and I’m attempting the all natural route, consisting of:
EVOO: Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Oil dissolves oil, so essentially it helps gently remove the dirty oil and replaces it with good, nourishing, healing oil. Other oils like castor oil and regular olive oil are carrier oils and work well, but some people found success with grapeseed oil, and flaxseed oil, especially if their skin is very oily. I haven’t tried these personally, though.
I will also be exfoliating my skin with the apricot scrub and green tea mix. Green tea has well-documented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and the helps to get ride of dead skin. I’ve seen plenty of videos by beauty gurus on the YT that do DIY scrubs with honey, sugar and tea or tea and salt. You can try those as well.
My toner choices are lavender itch hazel or 2:3 ratio of apple cider vinegar and water. I know I have to be careful with the ACV, it’s very potent and may be too harsh for my skin. I’ve read that tea tree essential oil is also a natural antiseptic, and is great for clearing up acne.
If your skin is on the dry side, jojoba oil and almond oil are also good carrier oils. Jojoba oil is thought to be just like the natural oil produced by your body called sebum. I have yet to find a great moisturizer for after I cleanse my skin, so I’m going to mix the two pictured above and see what happens.
I’m not getting any younger and I want me skin to be clear for more that a few days at a time. If any of you have the same problem and found something that works for you please let me know. I will keep you all posted on the progress and changes if any I make to this new regimen
