Aroma What?!

Aroma What?!

I can’t freaking’ believe it, my favorite die-hard staple beauty products for my body are finally on sale at Bath and Body Works (BBW), TODAY and it’s for one day only. Come on, you’re killing me BBW. The aromatherapy scents available vary from lavender vanilla to orange ginger and eucalyptus basil and many more in between.

Of all the aromatherapy lines, I can bask in the scent of black currant vanilla all day, every day, and NEVER get tired of it. It gets my senses high and the sugar scrub is amazing especially in the summer months.

Think about it, if you could smell sexuality and sensuality, the black currant vanilla line would be it. So you guys better get online quick the day is almost over.

Happy April 1st !

Dear Summer,

Dear Summer

“Dear Summer,
Please help me and treat my locks right, don’t dry them out too much and please avoid giving me volume when I’m not in need of it.
Thanks xoxo!”

So the summer season is in full effect. Every week it’s getting warmer and warmer. For a few weeks now I’ve been experimenting with a new hair routine, including products that I’ve come to love. I’m hoping this routine will stick around for the long haul, not just the summer. Be on the look out, for a detailed post about my new routine and the products I’ve been using at a later date.

I would like to see your summer hair, use the hashtag above.

New season. New polish.

If you don’t already know I’m a bit of a nail polish hoarder. Remind me to show you my collection in the very near future. I will admit I dont have any essie polishes, (hangs head low), I know, I know, what’s my problem right?! Welp folks, I’m sorry not sorry, that it’s a bit pricey for me. Seriously! For the price of one essie polish bottle I can get about FOUR bottles of several other brands that are less than two bucks! I have yet to find a justification for opening thee wallet and forking over the cash. I’m not cheap just conservative.

These colors are enticing I have to say.

One of these days I will “treat” myself to a bottle of essie. I promise. But until then I’ll stick with getting the essie experience via a pro mani and pedi.

What essie polishes do you own?

NEW “SERIES” | Hash It Out

SO… It seems as though I post more on my instagram then anywhere else at the moment and with the many things I have going on inside and outside of my brain, I thought it would be fun to inject a new “series” in the mix.

These are the hash tags of the day that will be used for each day. You can post a photo or comment on what comes to mind when you see the hash tag for that particular day and as ALWAYS you are more than welcome to ask me a question within the context of the hash tag of the day.

I think this will be fun and a better way for me to get to know you and vice versa. Today is #missionmonday, so share a mission that you’re on or that you’re about to start or that you just completed. Heaven knows I’m on a few missions right now. Go to my INSTAGRAM for the latest one!

Use the hash tag of today and hash tag #nrja so I can see you post via, instagram, Facebook, twitter or  google.

Hair| Staples of Winter 2013-14

photo via Instalife

Yesterday was my wash day as it is every week, since the winter hit. In this is post you’ll find things that work for me and have become permanent fixtures in my healthy hair care journey.

Moisturizing Deep Conditioners
I have yet to find a brand that I feel deep contains mohair good enough. I usually aim to do a moisturizing deep conditioning treatment weekly and after every time I cleanse my hair. This is especially necessary as a part of my winter regimen.

  • Tressemme Naturals  mixed with honey and oils (Go to deep conditioning concotion)
  • Honey/Olive Oil Homemade Deep Conditioner – Agave Nectar is a great vegan substitute for the Honey used in this mix.
  • Grapeseed Oil and EVOO (with a little bit of conditioner)
  • Amla

While my hair isn’t protein sensitive, I don’t usually need heavy doses of protein in my products. However, I do like to do a protein treatment every so often. Then I deep condition afterwards.

  • Coconut Milk Concotion
  • Egg & Oil of choice
  • Coconut Oil (used mostly for pre-shampoo treatments)

This is what I use when I actually cleanse my hair, ONCE A MONTH or AS NEEDED.

  • SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Rentenion
  • V05 Moisture Milks Strawberries & Cream with Soy Milk Protein Moisturizing

Even though I do “co-wash” – I generally always feel the need to cleanse my scalp with one of my cleansers listed below when my hair needs it. In this category, I typically prefer conditioners that can also double as detangling aides or as my leave-in.

  • TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner (mixed with essentials oils and coconut oil)
  • Vo5 (Still a staple….but no longer a Holy Grail)
  • SheaMoisture African Black  Soap Balancing Conditioner

  • Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner (Still a staple….but no longer a Holy Grail)
  • SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Reconstructive Conditioner
  • Giovanni Direct Leave-In

  • Crystal Eco Styler Gel – (Staple gel for wash and go styling)
  • Argan Oil Crystal Eco Styler Gel
  • Fruit of the Earth 100% Aloe Vera Gel
  • SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie (Year-round Holy Grail all natural Styler which smells HEAVENLY!!)
  • SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque (mostly used in the winter  months)

  • Good ‘ole Fashion Water! (Holy Grail – I spritz my hair with water every single day and wash weekly)
  • SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie (Holy Grail) – I use this to moisturize and seal in one step.
  • SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque
  • Coconut Oil
  • Oyin Hair Dew

  • 100% Virgin Organic Coconut Oil (Staple)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Staple) – I love to use this as a pre-poo or mix with other deep treatments
  • Jojoba oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Peppermint Oil
  • Sweet Almond oil
  • Castor Oil

  • Goody Pick
  • Tangle Teezer knock-off (I only use this when I’m straightening my hair)
  • Goody Wide Tooth Comb (for “quick” detangling)
  • Plastic Claw Clips – used for sectioning my hair
  • Black bobby pins – used for styling hair
  • Clear Processing Caps (For Deep Conditioning/Overnight Baggy treatments)
  • Goody Ouchless scrunciis – currently used for sailor moon buns, ponytails, buns and to pineapple my hair at night.
  • Satin Bonnet / Satin Scarf
  • Blow-dryer with Diffuser Attachment & Concentration Nozzel

I know this post is pretty long, but I just want to include all that I could.  Again these things work for me and if something changes I will definitely update you on it. Until then…

Happy Growing!!

Yup! This is Bianca Alexa

Isn’t she lovely?? The defined curls the light amount of frizz and the over all healthy hair on this young ladies head is something I aspired to have. Hence my healthy hair journey. I wasn’t going to mention it but now I figure why not share with all of you and perhaps my experience will help others.

Right now I’m off to a so-so start, more details later.
